The email had arrived at 3 AM. He'd been tossing and turning, haunted by deadlines and doubt. The message, brief and cold, announced his digital illustrations were the centrepiece of a commercial campaign—without any mention of his contribution. He stared at the screen, the blue light reflecting in his hollow eyes. His hands were shaky as he finally slammed the laptop shut. He stood up, but his limbs felt like anchors; he had to sit back down. He felt drained and empty. He found himself incapable of getting any work done.
